Mountain Gateway Museum, in partnership with the McDowell County Public Library, is excited to announce our next book for the Mountain Stories Book Club. It is Shelia Kay Adams' "My Old True Love". Set in Marshall, Madison County, just before and during the Civil War, Even Larkin Stanton knows the ballads of the Appalachian Mountains before his first word. Eventually, he and his equally musically gifted cousin Hackley use their music to charm the same woman, Mary. Years later, after Mary and Hackley marry and the Civil War brings changes to the family, old feelings stir in Even, deepening his musical gifts.
The book club will meet on July 30 at 6:00 at the museum's temporary location at 78-C Catawba Ave. This free event is open to the public and will highlight a different book each month that connects to Western North Carolina’s rich and complex history.
Copies of "My Old True Love" are available through McDowell County Public Library in multiple formats, including the Old Fort Branch of the McDowell County Library, now open!
