1916 Flood Damage

A Southern Railway inspector walks on a section of track dislodged from a fill in the Round Knob area near Old Fort following the historic July 1916 flood. The longest section of undamaged track between Old Fort and Black Mountain measured a half-mile. Through

heroic efforts, workers restored rail service in the area within six weeks.
